Using a dragon head within flames the very poorly done butterfly, which you will also note was applied backwards on the arm, was covered. Note that the back of the wing was used as the upper curve of the head. The body of the butterfly is the back of the dragons head. Deep rich purples and blues complete the process.

The original cardinal was rendered by an illegal studio in Bartleville, OK. Excellent example of what a person can expect to get when they enter an unregulated facility.

The poorly done cowgirl tattoo was covered using a freehand catfish design which was created by The GYPSY. The legs and hips of the cowgirl were used to create the catfish head.

The client who had his dragon tattoo covered with another dragon tattoo did so because he wanted a larger dragon. The original design was rendered by a studio in Joplin, Missouri and the client thought that the tattoo was good. When The GYPSY finished the cover-up the client looked at his new design then looked at The GYPSY and said, "My original tattoo wasn't good, was it!?" The cover-up is a complete freehand original and took approx. 12 hours to complete.

The client had the reaper design, which he had received from a studio in Coffeyville, KS, at the time his child was born. He decided to have the reaper covered because he did not want his child exposed to any negative influences. The client brought in a book which had the celtic design as a chapter seperater. We enlarged it and fit it to the old design. Using celtic to cover a tattoo is usually ill advised. This tested my skills and fortunately I was able to make it work.

Is it a heart? Is it a "bologna tribal" piece? Is it the return of the Blob? who knows but I made sure that the client did not have to live with it any longer. Unfortunately I found out later that the client had not listened to the care instructions and had picked the scab off of the healing tattoo which caused it to lose color and scar.

Normally I might include this one in my Fix-Up Gallery but I am going to call this a cover-up because the client was covering his old life by displaying his new life. This tattoo is a fine example of how a old design can be used to create a new and totally different design.
